On Wednesday, January 26, I was given an amazing opportunity to become one of the opening guest for the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust Ceremony. My friend, whose parents were part of the Israel embassy requested me to light up one of the candles for 6 million victims who were perished in the Holocaust as a Korean representative. I was very keen to do so, as my interest in meaningful historic events had deepened after the experience with the Afghan Clothing Drive.

Unfortunately, I had to miss this meaningful event because I was later tested positive for COVID-19 prior to the event. Despite the unexpected situation, it was significant to event in my life to be even invited to this thoughtful event that commemorated the victims of the Holocaust. It made me relate to the thin yet breathtaking book that I had read over winter vacation: Night by Elie Wiesel. As I was preparing for this ceremony, the horrifying situations that the book had described to me seemed to slowly unfold before my eyes.

Next time, I really hope to attend this ceremony without COVID-19 and experience this historic event!
