Hey! Here's a second post to my summer review ~ I mentioned that there were unexpected chances that came along in my last post. The second unexpected chance was working at the Korea Arab Society!
Living in Korea, I had no access to activities related to the Middle East despite being interested in it for a while. The reason why I had started learning Arabic was because of my best friend from UAE, but once she left, I had no resources... :(
Although I tried self-studying and being tutored to learn the language, I always felt like I was only surface-level/no access to Middle Eastern politics, culture, and language. Thus, it almost felt like a gift from heaven when I was given the chance to work with Korea Arab Society, a nonprofit and an incorporated foundation funded by both Korean and Arab governments! Working in an office of less than seven people, it was exciting to see that there were others in Korea who were passionate about the Middle East.
My role was to read various political, cultural, etc articles about the Middle East / its relationship with Korea and summarize them for a biweekly newsletter.
Again, I'm so thankful for this opportunity and would gladly do it again :)
P.S. I got to attend the Arab Film Festival at the end!! Inshallah a Boy was definitely something... feel free to ask me about it later if you're curious.
